Tonight was Bob Gainey’s jersey retirement night. Which means that tonight, of all nights, the Canadiens could be certain that their GM would be very attentive to the game as it was happening. So it’s ironic that they came out with one of their worst games in a long time- a game so disorganized and fumbly it looked as if they played it in some sort of hallucinogenic haze. Who knows, maybe they were blinded by Bob’s refracted glory. But it’s also safe to say that, if the game last Tuesday was one that suggested this team was ready to make a Cup run as-is, tonight’s suggested that without serious help they won’t get past the 2nd round.
Next Tuesday, then, should be especially interesting.
