Quiz #2: One of These Things is Not Like the Others…

I really hope this question is more difficult than the last one. This time I’m hoping for 12 hours before someone gets it. For those in the Montreal vicinity, the prize is the usual free cake; for those everywhere else, something non-perishable of equivalent value.

Below are listed 7 of the top 8 teams in the Eastern Conference as of 12/18/06- i.e. those who would make the playoffs if such were held today. Name the missing team, and state what makes that team different from the other 7.

Buffalo Sabres
Montreal Canadiens
Atlanta Thrashers
New York Rangers
Washington Capitals
Toronto Maple Leafs
Carolina Hurricanes

This one is probably more time-sensitive than the previous question, so you’ve got a better chance of getting it right if you answer sooner rather than later. Remember: The question is asked as of today. Contest ends 12/27/06 or when the correct answer is given. Again, no credit for answers that are right, but not the thing I have in mind.

My guess: All of these 7 teams have 100 or more goals for this season.

The missing team New Jersey does not (they only have 83)

Crap, i was just about to guess that.

well, that is right, however this time it's not what i was thinking of.

perhaps this one isn't quite fair, i suppose there might be many things that distinguish the devils from the others, but whatever- it's my quiz, competition remains open until someone reads my mind!

other guesses?

The missing team is New Jersey, and they're the only team of the 8 still actively playing the trap, thus boring as hell to watch to play?

Here's a stab (though I don't know how time-sensitive this one really is):

New Jersey is the only team in the top 8 of the east that has one goaltender with all of its wins.

Brodeur: 18-11-1
Clemmensen: 0-1-1

All the other 7 have 2 goalies with at least one win.

more good answers, but still not mine. it's rather less meaningful, i'm afraid...

Sleek stole my answer, so my 2nd choice will be NJ is the only team without a point per game player.

Probably not right, but WTF!

New guess: NJ has not lost in OT, only in shootouts.

Only Boston in the east can also claim that.

Devils have only two plus players.
